Counselling can help make sense of life’s experiences
About Me
Hi, my name is Izzy and I am a counsellor with a particular interest in connection, attachment and authenticity – understanding how our early experiences can influence the way we relate to ourselves, other people and the world around us.
Sometimes life can leave us feeling stuck in patterns we don’t fully understand.
Perhaps you find yourself going from 0 to 60, becoming overwhelmed or feeling like you’re going to explode in nano-seconds. Or perhaps you do the opposite – shut down, freeze, withdraw or go numb.
These responses can be understood as ways our minds and bodies have learned to keep us safe. Rather than judging ourselves for them, we can become curious about where they come from and what they might be telling us.
My training in attachment-based psychotherapy has deepened my understanding of these patterns, including the relationship between attachment, our nervous system and the ways we experience connection.
About Me
Hi, Im Izzy, and I continue to be curious about how our experiences shape us – how we come to understand ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we find our way through the world.
I have a particular interest in connection and in discovering our authentic selves – warts and all and understanding our younger selves can develop compassion. I’m also drawn to the deeper rhythms of life: the cyclical flow of nature, the changing seasons, ageing, birth and death, and the ways we make sense of these experiences and the world around us.
Understanding what shapes us
I have recently undertaken further training in attachment-based psychotherapy, which has deepened my understanding of how our early experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, develop our patterns of relating and navigate relationships throughout our lives.
I’m also interested in the relationship between attachment, our emotions and our nervous system. Sometimes our responses can feel as though they happen before we have had time to think.
Do you sometimes find yourself going from 0 to 60 in a matter of seconds, feeling overwhelmed, angry or as though you might explode? Or perhaps you do the opposite — shutting down, freezing, withdrawing or finding yourself going numb?
These responses often make more sense when we begin to understand what our minds and bodies have learned to do to keep us safe.
Therapy can offer a space to become curious about these patterns rather than judging ourselves for them. Together, we can begin to understand where they come from, how they may have served us, and whether there might be different ways of responding that feel more helpful now.
For me, therapy isn’t about becoming a different person. It is about developing a deeper understanding of ourselves, making sense of our experiences and, perhaps, finding our way back to the parts of ourselves that have become lost, hidden or disconnected along the way.
